I have already  started to work on my draft about self-reflection , and organize the paper.

the good thing for me is that i have a clear clue to organize how to arrange the stuff  for the portfolio.

however, the difficult thing is that i almost forgot about the organization of previous essays. so it’s getting difficult to work on that…

my question :  what is the requirement for our each essay?

• How particular audiences, genres, and technologies shape reading and writing.
• How multi-modal elements of texts (images, sound, design) can have rhetorical effects.
• How to choose, critique, and experiment with multi-modal elements, genre, or a mix of genres for a rhetorical purpose.
• How to use writing and reading for inquiry, learning, thinking, and communicating.
• How rhetorical, collaborative, social, and technological aspects of writing processes and products overlap.
• How language carries the power to shape perceptions and construct knowledge.

the most thing I learned for me is probably connected to the rhetorical knowledge in this semester, the advantage of using this technology is  able to sort out the genres and audience of the essay easily. so that we can understand more about the purposes or direction if we get a hint from the  category of the essay, on the other hand, I learned how to use multi-modal elements to describe more visually about the objects that it has a rhtorical effect. when it talks about the rhetorical function , it generally divided into different parts as follows

For student–researchers like graduate students, these advanced-level knowledge-transforming tasks are almost always difficult because they ask new researchers to wrestle with issues of their own identity as novices writing to and in a community of experts. Such tasks require not only subject-matter knowledge or formal genre knowledge, but also an understanding of how to write convincingly to expert readers. This paper focuses on the pivotal writing practices of two multilingual graduate students during a 2-year case study at an American research university, as they complete research-based writing tasks for their advisors and larger disciplinary community.

There was special news shocked by all the people from the world in 2008, Michael Fred Phelps, an American swimmer who currently holds the seven records in swimming of Beijing Olympic Games. He is only twenty-three- year old around that time. Soon he becomes a model of admiration for teenagers. However, when the scandal publishes that he was accused by the American government of smoking weeds, and the pictures of smoking Marijuana by Michael Fred Phelps were shown to TV. People from out of the United States started to lose faith to him. In the meantime, Michael Fred Phelps becomes a best advertisement of Marijuana to all people from the world. This is such a ridiculous reality and it causes very negative effects for young people. But the interesting thing is, after I go abroad to study in United States as an International student. I once asked many college students why Michael Fred Phelps wants to smoke weeds. The most answers I got from them are they don’t think Michael make a mistake, they consider that he just wants to relax himself, and Marijuana is just a stuff of relaxation. I was wondering why they gave this answer to me until I recognize unchecked spreading marijuana is a serious problem in United States.

Nowadays American popular culture includes various forms including music, film, television, advertising, sports, fashion, toys, magazines and comic books. However, every culture has different negative production of American culture. This time I would like to introduce Marijuana, the most “popular” drug in United States.

Marijuana is the common name for a crude drug made from the plant Cannabis Sativa. The material of Marijuana is made up of weeds, so the teenagers also describe Marijuana as weeds. The original of this kind of drug is for medical purposes as a painkiller and anesthetic for surgery. However, when scientists discover the effects of the drug will produce exciting feelings to human beings, making people feeling good after taking Marijuana. It has a huge change around people’s thinking since they know how it feels after taking this drug, especially for the age of young people. These dried leaves are usually smoked in rolled cigarettes or pipes to get a psychological feeling of euphoria or well-being. Because of this euphoric feeling associated with the use of marijuana, it becomes the third most commonly used drug in the United States just after the cigarettes and alcohol.

According to dependable statistics from National Institute on Drug Abuse, there are sixty percents of teenagers have ever tried this kind of drug, which means there are three young people have tried Marijuana in five people. This is such an amazing statistics around United States. And this statistics shows a truth: Drug use among teenagers seems to be on the rise and Marijuana is almost commonplace among adolescents.

Maybe you will ask me why, why would anyone wants to get involved with weeds? In my opinion, smoking Marijuana just like smoking cigarettes, it seems obvious that the effects of drugs are going to be bad and maybe even addicting, teenagers occupy the highest proportion of smoking Marijuana, because

You may hear marijuana called by street names such as pot, herb, weed, grass, boom, Mary Jane, gangster, or chronic. There are more than 200 slang terms for marijuana.

Di: oh, now i konw that, but what’s the effect for people when we tried this drug?

Han:  Some immediate physical effects of marijuana include a faster heartbeat and pulse rate, bloodshot eyes, and a dry mouth and throat. No scientific evidence indicates that marijuana improves hearing, eyesight, and skin sensitivity. Studies of marijuana’s mental effects show that the drug can impair or reduce short-term memory, alter sense of time, and reduce ability to do things which require concentration, swift reactions, and coordination, such as driving a car or operating machinery.

DI: I am pretty sure you used to be a marijuana smoker, you talk like you are a genius.

Han: well, A common bad reaction to marijuana is the “acute panic anxiety reaction.” People describe this reaction as an extreme fear of “losing control,” which causes panic. The symptoms usually disappear in a few hours. in other words ,  ”Burnout” is a term first used by marijuana smokers themselves to describe the effect of prolonged use. Young people who smoke marijuana heavily over long periods of time can become dull, slow moving, and inattentive. These “burned-out” users are sometimes so unaware of their surroundings that they do not respond when friends speak to them, and they do not realize they have a problem.
